While it varies from state to state, American parents are feeling the fatigue from COVID restrictions. A Georgia mom recently gave a heartfelt testimony to her local school board about the mask mandates that children have to endure.
One such new mask mandate is now in effect for toddlers in Michigan.
The order came down from Elizabeth Hertel, current head of Michigan’s Department of Health. Ironically Hertel has been noted as having traveled on vacation out-of-state to Alabama even though Michigan’s guidelines strongly discourage such leisure.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer took advantage of this technicality when responding to Hertel's critics. "I'm not going to get distracted by partisan hit jobs on my team. There have never been travel restrictions in Michigan. There just haven't been."
It was initially announced Monday of last week, April 19th. Toddlers in the State of Michigan are now required to wear masks in all public places, alongside all of the older age groups in the state.
According to pediatrician Dr. Matthew Hornik, he says Michigan’s mask order for toddlers isn’t a surprise. He told WZZM that the CDC had been talking about it since last autumn. “You know, the data recently has shown an increase in children. As more adults are getting vaccinated and as this UK variant is spreading in the state, it's a lot more contagious. So, yes, there still is a small amount of spread in schools and daycares. But, anything we can do to help kind of mitigate that spread even further is going to help.”
Hornik followed up by recommending parents changing masks for their children on a regular basis, as well as making sure to pick one that’s a proper size for them, for optimal results.
President Biden previously called Texas and Mississippi Neanderthals for lifting their mask mandates early last month. However since then Texas pandemic case numbers have plummeted.
The Michigan order expires at the start of the day on May 25th 2021.
