Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, Catherine McKenna, says new measures must be taken to protect Canadian politicians from threatening behaviour, Global News reports. What those measures may be are yet to have been made public.

On Monday, McKenna's constituency office in Ottawa was visited by an angry man who threw insults towards one of her staff members while recording with a smartphone. McKenna was not present. Ottawa Police have launched a hate crime investigation into the incident.

In the video, which was posted to social media, the man said he had “a tiny bit of an issue” before going on a tirade about McKenna's Ministerial duties. He said that McKenna has lied about how much the Trudeau government spends on infrastructure. His rant also included expletives directed towards Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party as a whole.

McKenna told reporters: "It’s not just about me. There’s been some attention to incidents involving me, but I’ve heard from so many women, from so many men, and it’s really worrying."

Ottawa Police have yet to update the public about the status of the investigation or the identity of the man.
