Throughout the last days of October, US Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted more than $50 million in methamphetamine heading in the United States at the Texas border.

On October 28, an American woman from Brownsville was busted after she applied for entry into the US at Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville, according to the CBP.

When CBP officers referred her 2008 Ford pickup for a secondary inspection, they discovered 24 packages of the substance within the truck.

In total, the 24 packages contained 76.54 pounds of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of approximately $1,530,874, according to the CBP.

The driver was arrested and placed in the custody of Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.

This incident occurred less than a week after CBP officers intercepted a "substantial" load of methamphetamine at the Veterans International Bridge in Brownsville.

On October 22, a 60-year-old Mexican citizen applied for entry into the United States, according to the CBP.

When his 1997 Freightliner truck was referred for a secondary inspection, CBP officers discovered 62 buckets of methamphetamine.

In total, the buckets contained a total of 2,444.92 pounds of methamphetamine, or 1.2 tons. The load has an estimated street value of $48,898,072.

This driver was also handed over to Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.

"This substantial seizure illustrates the importance of remaining vigilant and our CBP officers used their experience and enforcement tools available in keeping these dangerous narcotics from entering our country," said Port Director Tater Ortiz, Brownsville Port of Entry.
