Professor Michael Eric Dyson joined MSNBC's Joy Reid on Thursday and accused Virginia's first black Lt. Governor of being a "ventriloquist" for white supremacists.
Republican Winsome Sears made history in Virginia on Tuesday after becoming the state's first black female Lt. Governor. Instead of celebrating Sears' historic victory, Democrats across mainstream media have spent the following days smearing Winsome's name.
"To have a black face speaking on behalf of a white supremacist legacy is nothing new," Dyson said of Winsome Sears.
"The problem here is that they want white supremacy by ventriloquist effect," Dyson said. "There's a black mouth moving but a white idea running on the runway of the tongue of a figure who justifies and legitimates the white supremacist practices."
In addition to becoming the first black Lt. Governor of Virginia, Sears is also an immigrant from Jamaica and a United States Marine Corps Veteran. Sears campaigned on a bid alongside Republican Glenn Youngkin, who was also elected Tuesday night to serve as the next Governor of Virginia.
