On Thursday, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene gave a speech against voting for the Biden administration’s CR (Continuing Resolution) government funding bill. It’s a short-term solution meant to keep the lights on in Washington DC through February 18th, 2022.
But GOP Senators are now in a position to demand a vote over funding Biden’s vaccine mandate.
The House of Representatives ended up voting 221 FOR and 212 AGAINST the CR bill. The only Republican to vote with Democrats was Adam Kinzinger.
In this case, pundits say the speech that Rep. Greene gave earlier on Thursday is speaking on behalf of the GOP.
"Thank you. Madam Speaker I arise in opposition to the CR. The American people are $29 trillion dollars in debt, thanks to Congress. And this Congress wants to borrow more money and more time to figure out how to run the government and how to pay for it. That is…. that is an outrage to the American people," she said.
"You want to talk about courage and responsibility? Do you know what courage and responsibility is? It’s learning how to manage the people’s money. The people work hard every single day. They have to pay the taxes, and then they have to trust this House, this body, and the Senate, to create a budget. But every single time it’s a budget that puts them further and further in debt."
Greene doesn’t directly mention the amendment to the CR bill by Senators Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, and Roger Marshall.
As described by The Blaze, Lee said senators are "not inclined to give consent to expedite a funding measure that supports and funds President Biden's unconstitutional and sweeping vaccine mandate without holding a vote on that mandate."
The vaccine mandate was the stated reason Republican Reps. like Matt Rosendale of Montana and Louie Gohmert of Texas voted against it.
In short, Republican Senators are now in a position to demand a vote to defund President Biden’s vaccine mandate measure.
At the time of writing the point of the speech still stands as CBS reports that a handful of Senate Republicans were threatening to protest passage of the CR measure. The Senate will need to approve it by midnight on Friday to avoid a government shutdown.
Non-essential government services like the national parks would be shut down if a deal isn’t reached.
