A video translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) shows a cleric in British Columbia telling Muslim youth that celebrating Christmas “is a far greater sin than murder, adultery, and other major sins”.
The video was obtained from the Muslim Youth of Victoria’s Youtube channel on December 23rd, 2018, just one day before Christmas eve.
The cleric in question Sheikh Younus Kathrada who is a “South-African born Canadian Imam, Islamic Studies teacher, community and youth activist, counsellor, chaplain, and public speaker” who lives in British Columbia.
“If a person were to commit every major sin – committing adultery, dealing with interest, lying, murder… If a person were to do all of those major sins, they are nothing compared to the sin of congratulating and greeting the non-Muslims on their false festivals” he says in the video.
At the end of the video Kathrada tells people not to be violent towards non-Muslims and not to treat others unjustly.
