NASCAR driver Bobby East was stabbed to death last week by a 27-year-old homeless man as he filled his car up at a California gas station.

The Daily Mail reports that 37-year-old East was getting gas at a 76 gas station on Westminster Boulevard in Westminster, California when vagrant Trent William Millsap attacked East and another man.

The NASCAR driver was rushed to a local hospital with knife wounds to his chest, but died soon after.

According to Fox News, Bobby East was a three-time United States Auto Club (USAC) National Champion driver in USAC Silver Crown and Midgets.

"East was phenomenal in USAC National Sprint Cars as well, most notably on pavement tracks," USAC said in a statement. "He tallied 15 wins in the series, with the first coming in 2003 at Ohio’s Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. He also prevailed at the Milwaukee Mile in 2005 in what remains as the last USAC Sprint Car race held on a one-mile track."

Westminster Police said Millsap was a transient who frequented the area and is adorned with tattoos all over his face and body.

Police also said Milsap had an outstanding arrest warrant for a parole violation and the public should consider the itinerant armed and dangerous.

Westminster is a city in Orange County, California which is just south of Los Angeles, where crime has surged over the past two years.

The Daily Mail reports that violent crime is up 8.2 percent in LA County, robberies are up 20.8 percent, aggravated assaults are up 5 percent, and property crimes are up 13.6 percent.

Despite big spending attempts from the state, homelessness is at an all time high in LA and California writ large. Attacks by the homeless have also increased and last week Olympic Medalist Kim Glass was brutally attacked by a homeless man in LA after having lunch with friends.
