New 'Firefly' series in the works to be set 20 years after the original

Boom! Entertainment has confirmed that a new Firefly series is in the works, called Firefly: A Brand New Verse, and should be coming out by March of 2021.

Boom! Entertainment has confirmed that a new Firefly series is in the works, called Firefly: A Brand New Verse, and should be coming out by March of 2021.

The series will be in comic book form, and is slated for a March 10 release. It is the latest sequel to come down the line this year, is to follow the life of Emma, the daughter of the Washburnes, who has in her own right become a captain of the Serenity, with her own brand-new crew, according to comicbook.com.

The original Firefly TV series, which premiered on Fox in Sept. of 2002, ran for 11 episodes; there were also a further three episodes that were not initially aired. The show also spawned a movie and a 2018 comic book series, which all shared the same strict canon with each other.

The original show portrayed the lives of nine renegades fleeing Earth on the Serenity, a starship which visits various planets and moons as the pioneers search for a place to put down new roots.
