Parler interim CEO Mark Meckler said that former President Donald Trump is welcome on the alternative free speech platform to Twitter—weeks after Trump was suspended from multiple Big Tech social media sites.
"He's welcome on the platform just like anybody else," Meckler said of the former president in an interview with Fox News. "We welcome all political perspectives."
Meckler stated that if Trump "wants to come here and participate in free speech, he would be welcome on the platform." Noting that he doesn't agree with Twitter's decision to ban Trump from the network, Meckler argued that the former commander-in-chief did not say "anything illegal" on Twitter or anywhere else. He added that President Joe Biden is also welcome to join Parler.
Meckler was tapped as the company's chief executive officer after his predecessor, John Matze, was let go several weeks ago when the previous tech head said that he did not want to deal with Trump if he ever joined Parler.
"I didn't like the idea of working with Trump, because he might have bullied people inside the company to do what he wanted," Matze told Axios on HBO. "But I was worried that if we didn’t sign the deal, he might have been vengeful and told his followers to leave Parler."
Neither he nor anyone in Parler has spoken with Trump or his company, Meckler acknowledged. Parler faced similar exile in mid-January when Amazon suspended the company's access to its hosting services for violating the provider's terms of service and failure to moderate "egregious content" related to the Capitol Hill riot.
That same weekend, tech tyrants Google and Apple removed Parler's app from their respective marketplaces. The latter first threatened to ban unless Parler adhered to stipulated practices. The enforcement actions alleged that Trump supporters and far-right extremists used Parler to organize Jan. 6 breach of the federal Capitol building.
Meckler maintained that he believes that Parler will be back on Apple's app store. However, regarding the Play store, Meckler said that the developers are "not really interested" in working with Google, calling the search engine overlord "anti-free speech." While users can "side-load" their Android devices, that's not viable distribution of the mobile application for newcomers. Until then, on-the-go Parler users won't have an easy way to install the software on their phones unless developers play by the rules outlined by the Internet oligarchs.
"The site is back up and running, and we're excited to have our 21 million users back," Meckler said in the segment. "There are some hiccups," he admitted.
In the return announcement as the company resumes operations under new leadership, Parler declared via news release that the site will use artificial intelligence programs and human editors to investigate speech that violates its terms of service agreement, The Epoch Times reported.
Parler is positioned as nonpartisan, but the town square has become the high-profile refuge for mainstream conservatives, Republican pundits, and free speech absolutists alike who have been booted by Silicon Valley gatekeepers.
