A recent poll shows how many Canadians would rather have U.S. President Donald Trump as leader over our current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The poll was conducted by Leger, and it asked Canadians and Americans a variety of questions regarding their leadership skills and their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic from both Trudeau and Trump.

When it came to the question of who would Canadians rather have as leader Justin Trudeau or Donald Trump, the poll found that 10 percent of Canadians would rather have Donald Trump as their leader whereas in the United States, that number jumps up to 38 percent. Canadians who would prefer to keep Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister over Trump came in at a confident 76 percent whereas 42 percent of Americans would swap out Trump to have Trudeau run their lands of stars and stripes. Canadians who were unsure about either came in at 14 percent and 20 percent of Americans answered the same.

Among the political parties within Canada, only 2 percent of Liberal Canadians were in favour of changing Trudeau for Trump whereas Conservative Canadians were more likely to make the switch at 31 percent. The NDP, Green Party and Block Quebecois were all less than 10 percent in favour of having President Trump migrate his leadership north of the border.

Upon more specific questions such as who of the two would be better to boost the economy, 20 percent of Canadian pollsters said Trump was the man for the job however 64 percent were more confident in Mr. Trudeau.

Trudeau also won out on the question of who was better to support the countries health care system by a landslide 80 percent, only 6 percent of Canadians thought Trump would do a better job with health care.

Few Canadians had faith the Trump's administration would discover a vaccine, only 13 percent, but 67 percent were confident the Trudeau's administration could.

On matters of which leader surrounded the self with the best health experts, Trudeau again took a landslide lead of 73 percent while Trump only came in with 9 percent.

Trump lost another percent when it came to who is more likely to tell the truth to their citizens. Trump only managed to acquire the faith of 8 percent of Canadians while Trudeau boasted the trust of 71 percent of Canadians.

In terms of the political party breakdowns within those questions, the results are not overly surprising. Conservatives showed more faith in Trump whereas Liberals stuck to their guns with Trudeau. Overall, Canadians appear to have more confidence in their home leader of Trudeau than Trump.

According to Leger: This web survey was conducted from May 29 to May 31, 2020, with 1,536 Canadians and 1,002 Americans, 18 years of age or older, randomly recruited from LEO’s online panel.

Using data from the 2016 Census, the results were weighted by gender, age, mother tongue, region, education level and presence of children in the household in order to ensure a representative sample of the population.

For comparison, a probability sample of 1,536 respondents would have a margin of error of ±2.50%, 19 times out of 20, while a probability sample of 1,002 would have a margin of error of +3.1%, 19 times out of 20.
