A flurry of protesters congregated around New York's mayor's residence Gracie Mansion Monday evening, demanding that Bill de Blasio take action against the incessant fireworks that have been going off night after night across New York City's five boroughs.
City councilman Chaim Deutsch took to Twitter Monday evening, posting a video with him saying that he "would be joined by a few hundred individuals that would be honking their horns in front of Gracie Mansion."
The video shows numerous cars in front of Gracie Mansion, honking their horns, in an effort to keep de Blasio awake through the night, just as New Yorkers have been plagued with sleeplessness as a result of illegal firework explosions.
"Mr. Mayor," he wrote, "if we can't sleep, you won't sleep."
Our message tonight was simple: Mr. Mayor, if we can’t sleep, you won’t sleep. pic.twitter.com/7UuWnLfyrg

The move by Deutsch was a protest to motivate de Blasio to take action against the fireworks that have been going off in the city for the past few weeks.
A Brooklyn man was caught setting off fireworks in a residential area, saying that he isn't scared of what Kaplan, who shot the video, or the police would do to him as a consequence.

The reasons have varied as to why the fireworks have been going off, with some saying that it is just kids wanting to blow off steam after being cooped up. Nikole Hannah-Jones, of The New York Times, posited an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory that the fireworks are a psychological operation to keep black and brown people in fear.
That there have been masses of illegal fireworks being set off in New York City is indisputable. Reports on these incidents continue.
Can anyone explain why we’re getting Macy’s 4th of July level fireworks every night in NYC for the past 3 weeks now? Asking for a friend. It’s been nonstop from 8pm-3am in all 5 boroughs. #nycfireworks #fireworks #fireworksnyc pic.twitter.com/uPj5BOckgw

And:
NYPD officers are not doing nothing (besides take video) to stop the out of control fireworks across NYC out of fear of being sued or fired. #DefundThePolice @NYCMayor @NYPDnews pic.twitter.com/kobdnGOoXD

There have been nearly 9,000 complaints within New York City for the illegal setting off of fireworks, and nothing has been done about it.
