The New York Public Library will not remove the six discontinued Dr. Seuss books, and they intend for the books to stay there as long as their physical copies exist.

“As with all public libraries the New York Public Library does not censor or remove books,” library spokeswoman Angela Montefinise said.

She explained to the New York Post that libraries aren’t in the business of censoring. Instead, the only time a book ever leaves rotation is when the physical copies are too worn out for further use.

“In the meantime, librarians, who care deeply about serving their communities and ensuring accurate and diverse representation in our collections — especially children’s books — will certainly strongly consider this information when planning storytimes, displays, and recommendations,” Montefinise stated.

Angela pointed out the books were officially categorized in their historical research collection.

Yesterday six Dr. Seuss books were effectively cancelled by their representative company over allegations of “racist” imagery. The announcement of it came with the caveat that this was a carefully considered decision that Dr. Seuss Enterprises talked about for months.

Another simultaneous blunder was Joe Biden’s decision to omit Dr. Seuss from mention of the annual Read Across America initiative. A tradition that was established on Theodor Geisel's birthday intentionally.

Unsurprisingly recent events have made the Dr. Seuss series a hot ticket item on Amazon’s best-seller list.

The Post added that both Brooklyn Public Library and Denver Public Library were doing the same.
