San Jose Sharks centre Logan Couture says he was "sucker punched" for saying he would vote Republican, and for mentioning Donald Trump "by name."
Couture, who hails from Guelph, Ontario, says the incident took place in Toronto.
"I talked about voting for the Republican Party, and I mentioned Donald Trump by name. I was sucker punched," said Couture, adding: "Is this really what we are coming to? If you vote you are a villain? Man this world is so wrong."
While the 31-year-old says he does not directly support Donald Trump, but that he would vote for the Republican Party if he could.
"[I was punched for] saying my dad was a police officer and I 'would' if I could vote republican," Couture said.
