On Monday it was reported that Nike was bringing suit against manufacturer MSCHF who created shoes that were based on Nikes. Nike filed a lawsuit to halt the accompanying shoe line that was slated to roll out to consumers.

Many didn’t know who Lil Nas X was until he released a new music video for “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)”. In the clip viewers will see the rapper give a lap dance to Satan.

According to Rolling Stone, the Nike shoe company is suing MSCHF (who designed the Lil Nas X Satan shoes) on the basis that the rollout announcement made it appear as if Nike endorses Satanism. The fact that MSCHF did this allegedly without “approval or authorization” of Nike means the shoes are “likely to cause confusion and dilution and create an erroneous association between MSCHF’s products and Nike.”

Lil Nas took to Twitter to comment.

Lil Nas X recently launched a pair of customized Satanic shoes that use Nike Air Max 97s as their base. Limited to 666 pairs and selling at over $1000 USD, they feature: a pentagram, a Bible verse shout-out that mentions Satan, and a drop of blood from a MSCHF Product Studio employee (which is mixed with 60 cubic centimeters of red ink).

On a separate note, Nike thinks injecting blood into the midsole of the shoe might be a safety risk to consumers.

For relief, Nike seeks MSCHF to stop all manufacture, distribution, and promotion of the Satan shoes. Furthermore the company wants all related materials delivered straight to Nike so they can destroy them.

Not a moment too soon. According to CNN the $1018 shoes sold out within a minute of their announcement.

The last time something like this happened was when Nintendo sued Soulja Boy over his bootleg video game consoles.
