A father who was shot after his daughter chased her basketball after it rolled into a neighbor's yard has claimed that the man expressed anti-white sentiments prior to carrying out the attack.

Jamie White of Gaston County, North Carolina alleged that as Robert Louis Singletary opened fire on his daughter, wife, and him, Singletary had shouted "I don't even like white people." White was shot through the lung and liver while protecting his daughter Kinsley, who was left with bullet fragments in her cheek but was saved from further injury by her father's actions.

In an interview with the Gaston Gazette after being released from the hospital, White gave a detailed account of what happened that evening. He explained that while he was outside cooking up dinner on his barbecue, Kinsley was playing with other children nearby and a basketball rolled into Singletary's yard.

Singletary confronted other neighbors about the errant ball, and eventually went into his house to grab something. When he came out, he was holding a gun, and began firing at his neighbors.

"At that point, I took off," White said. "My youngin' was down the road too. My little girl and about 10, 12 other kids were down there."

White said Singletary got closer to him, at which point he told him to put the gun away, citing the fact that there were so many children in the area.

"I said, 'Man, that's crazy', and he said, 'You white? I don't even like white people. I'm going to shoot your *ss."

White went on to explain that upon seeing Singletary point a second gun at Kinsley, he jumped into action and ran towards her, at which point he was shot.

Singletary made a run for it, but was tracked down in Florida and arrested. He was scheduled to appear in court in Hillsborough County on Friday, April 21 regarding his extradition back to North Carolina.

Before long, it was revealed that Singletary had a criminal past. In December 2022, he was accused of hitting his girlfriend in the head with a mini-sledgehammer, but was later released on bond.

"None of this would have happened if the judicial system would have done their job," White said.

Following the incident, a GoFundMe was set up to pay for White and Kinsley's medical bills. It has since raised nearly $100,000.
