The campaign manager for a progressive New York City municipal council candidate complained that the Upper West Side of the city is too white and too Jewish, New York Post reports.

Quinn Mootz, the campaign manager for Sara Lind, who is running as one of six candidates in the Democrat stronghold, said that "Jews are not POC [People of Color] for just being jewish. sorry," in a now deleted tweet.

"As of 2018: 10.8% of the population is Asian, 4.1% black, 14.1% hispanic, and 68.4% white. So yeah ima go ahead and say the UWS has a diversity problem," she wrote.

After being criticized by local residents, the campaign defended Mootz, claiming that she herself is Jewish.

"Our campaign manager happens to be Jewish. She finds these attacks to be very hurtful," said campaign representative Jordan Jayson. "The comments are being taken out of context."

The campaign also accused residents who were concerned about the tweets of being "liars."

Lind has since pulled the entire campaign off Twitter, insisting that they have been the victims of harassment by residents concerned about the remarks. "Our campaign is officially off Twitter. We've been trolled relentlessly with slurs, sexual assault and death threats, and anonymous cowards spreading misinformation."

The campaign offered no evidence of threats of sexual assault and death.
