One man has been arrested and another is still wanted for an assault against a Mississauga gas station clerk, Peel Regional Police has announced.
The assault took place early in the morning on July 4th and was captured by security camera footage.
In the footage, two men can be seen entering the gas station where they immediately go to the back of the store behind a shelving unit. One of the men then ignites a Roman candle, a form of fireworks, and fires the flashes at the cashier as the other man records the whole incident on his cell phone.
The victim suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries.
Mohammed Mumin was identified as the man recording the assault on his cell phone. The 21-year-old from Toronto has been charged with Assault with a Weapon, Mischief Endangering Life, and Forcible Confinement.
If convicted, Mumin faces up to 10 years in prison for Assault with a Weapon and up to life imprisonment for Mischief Endangering Life.
The other suspect, who was holding and aiming the fireworks, has not yet been identified. Police have described him as "male, black, late teens, long black hair, wearing red shoes, black pants, and a dark blue shirt with yellow Nike writing."
Peel Regional Police are asking anyone with information on the suspect to contact investigators, or to contact Peel Crime Stoppers if one wishes to report such information anonymously.
Munin is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on December 15th.
