Only 29 percent of likely voters want Biden to run for 2nd term: poll

On the GOP side, a whopping 81 percent of likely voters absolutely do not want to see Biden gain a second term, and 58 percent of independent and unaffiliated voters are opposed to a Harris candidacy.

New polling out from Rasmussen found that a majority of likely voters have no interest in seeing President Joe Biden serve for a second term. Rasmussen Reports finds that 59 percent of voters don't want Biden to run for reelection, while 29 percent are in favor of his having a second term, and 12 percent are unsure. This after polling showed that more than 70 percent of Americans believe Biden has the country on the wrong track.

If Biden were to run for a second term, which he has indicated his intention to do, Vice President Kamala Harris intends to go along for the second ride. Yet, voters are not too keen on Harris, either. 56 percent of likely voters have no interest in seeing Harris run for president, while 29 percent would be in favor of her candidacy. 15 percent are undecided.

Former President Donald Trump, who has hinted that he may make a run for president after losing to Biden in the 2020 presidential election, only has 37 percent of likely voters behind his run, with 54 percent of those polled saying that they do not think he should go for a second term. That 37 percent in favor of a Trump candidacy, however, is still greater than the 29 percent that would back a Biden or Harris ticket.

When broken down on party lines, 48 percent of Democrats would look to Biden for a second term, with 50 percent saying that if Biden doesn't take up the cause, Harris should give a run a go. 33 percent of Democrats do not want Biden to remain in office, and 19 percent are undecided.

On the GOP side, a whopping 81 percent of likely voters absolutely do not want to see Biden gain a second term, and 58 percent of independent and unaffiliated voters are opposed to a Harris candidacy.

62 percent of unaffiliated voters do not want Biden to stay in the Oval Office. 34 percent of that same demographic would be in favor of a Trump run, with 60 percent of Republican voters backing the former president.

The opposition to Biden was universal across racial groups, with 60 percent of white voters, 52 percent of black voters, and 59 percent of those who are part of other minority groups saying Biden should not run. Only 47 percent of black voters would be in favor of a Harris run, while a majority of voters in other groups are opposed.

Trump also has a large portion of support among lower-income earners, with those making between $30,000 and $50,000 in favor of Trump, and those earning over $200,000 overwhelmingly opposed.

The questions asked were: "Should President Joe Biden run for re-election in 2024," "If President Biden decides against running for re-election, should Vice President Kamala Harris run for president in 2024?," and "Should former President Donald Trump run for president again in 2024?"

"The survey of 1,000 U.S. Likely Voters was conducted on June 30, 2022 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC."
