A report co-authored by Dr. Nathan Stall of Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto criticizes the Ford government's vaccination rollout, saying that the province having not yet vaccinated all long-term care home residents a "failure."
Stall, who advocates that residents should be vaccinated before medical staff, was among the first wave of vaccine recipients, having been vaccinated on December 22.
Stall said he was "elated" to have his number called to receive the vaccine, thanking the Ontario government for making his immunization happen.
Dr. Stall would go on to criticize the very Ontario government he thanked, telling CBC one month later:
"I consider [the government's vaccine rollout] honestly to be a breathtaking failure."
"We're approaching five weeks. We have vaccinated about 55,000 long-term care workers, 15,000 retirement home workers and about 15,000 retirement home residents."
"But the number one priority all along ought to have been vaccinating long-term care residents."
Stall told CBC that the Ford government's response would cost lives, adding in his report: "If vaccine supply is limited, the early provision of first doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to LTC home residents is likely to be more beneficial than the on-schedule provision of second doses to health-care workers outside of LTC homes."
