As of Friday morning, 640 new confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported in Ontario, according to blogTO.
The news is not all bad though as the province's number of resolved cases is quite a bit higher than the active ones. There are 7,087 resolved cases and 5,669 active ones.
To date, there have been 13,519 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the province.
Ontario also reported 50 new deaths—slightly lower than the 55 that were reported Thursday. The total number of deaths in the province stands at 763.
Health officials in Ontario are also coming through with their promise of increased testing. Yesterday, there were 12,295 tests completed, bringing the total to 207,040.
Officials plan to complete 16,000 or more daily tests by May 6.
Ontario currently has 910 patients hospitalized with the virus. There are 243 in ICU and 193 requiring ventilators.
Ontario’s Epidemiologic Summary has reported 143 outbreaks in long-term care facilities.
There have been 463 resident deaths at the facilities.
Healthcare workers make up 12.8 percent of cases in Ontario at 1,732.
It has been suggested by public health officials that the province has hit its peak for community spread, though “congregate settings” are still seeing a rapid rise in cases.
Premier Doug Ford announced that the province will not be loosening restrictions any time soon.
