The Ontario government has announced that the province will be introducing 24/7 vaccinations at some pharmacies for people aged 40 and older, City News reports.
"Working with our pharmacy partners, we are ensuring communities who are most at risk are able to access COVID-19 vaccines conveniently, close to home and around the clock," said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott.
24/7 vaccinations will be offered by some clinics as early as Wednesday.
Individuals seeking vaccinations will also be allowed to walk into clinics to receive them and will not be required to make an appointment, although not all pharmacies will be offering this option.
The announcement comes shortly after the province declared that anyone aged 40 and older is eligible to receive the coronavirus vaccine.
The expansion in vaccinations is good news for the embattled Ford government, which has faced criticism as daily coronavirus diagnoses continue to remain high across the province. The Ford government has instituted strict lockdown measures in order to curb the pandemic, many of which have been heavily criticized by health experts and civil liberties advocates.
