A ten-day injunction will prevent truckers parked in downtown Ottawa from honking.

The decision was made by Ontario Supreme Court Justice Hugh McLean. The injunction is necessary due to needing to hear more evidence, though enough was presented to make a swift ruling for Monday.

According to Global News, the lawyer who is representing residents of Ottawa in a class action lawsuit against the truckers for "loud and prolonged honking" is causing harm to the residents.

Lawyer Keith Wilson of the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedom, who is representing three involved in the case, had said that the ruling would be of national importance.

Earlier today, Ottawa Centre MP Yasir Naqvi called the protestors unpeaceful and unlawful, as well as racists, who are torturing citizens with honking.

"Members of my community have been harassed because of their skin colour," he said. "Yelled at for wearing masks, subjected to hurtful and racist symbols, torturous honking, and there are accounts of assaults," he said.

Truckers in downtown Ottawa responded by honking.
