Ontario Liberal Party Leader Steven Del Duca has called on Premier Doug Ford to shut down businesses across the province's hardest hit regions.
"Ford has lost control. Ontario is now in a full-fledged wave two, and still this premier and his cabinet refuse to invest in the safety of Ontarians, even as they sit on billions of dollars in unspent federal funding," said Del Duca, according to The Star.
A shut down of that magnitude would mirror Quebec's current plan. Starting October 1, the province shut down "hot spots" including bars and dine-in restaurants in Montreal and Quebec City.
"Immediately suspend indoor dining at restaurants and bars and close gyms for 28 days in COVID hotspots... Provide immediate support to businesses affected by the closure," Del Duca continued.
"His negligence in August and September has left Ontarians grappling with a fierce second wave, without any leadership to guide them through it."
Del Duca encouraged Ford to turn on the taps and provide financial assistance to those affected by shut downs, telling Ford that it was not the time "to hoard cash."
