The Ontario Medical Association (OMA) says that the province should not yet lift its stay-at-home order, set to lift on May 20.
According to a statement from OMA President Dr. Samatha Hill, lifting the order would only prolong the amount of time Ontarians need to face restrictions.
"No one wants to start lifting restrictions too soon, only to find the virus spreading again and we have to go back into lockdown," she said, according to CTV News.
The OMA does say, however, that outdoor activities such as tennis and gold should be less restrictive, as to improve their physical and mental health.
The likely scenario sees the stay-at-home orders extended until June 2. "We need to see a pretty significant drop in the number of cases," Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott told reporters on Monday.
The Ford government's stay-at-home order has been in effect since April 8, and was slated to last six weeks—meaning the province was set to open up just a few days before the May 24 weekend.
