Ontario receives donation of 600,000 pieces of PPE

A very generous donation of personal protective equipment (PPE) has been made to Ontario to help aid front-line healthcare workers in their fight against the coronavirus pandemic, according to blog TO.

An effort to locate equipment such as face masks, goggles and gloves, face shields and medical gowns is occurring for hospitals around the province—items essential for fighting the outbreak.

Luckily, a company called Bruce Power has made a donation of 600,000 PPE items to Ontario. Bruce Power is an electricity generating company based in Tiverton, Ontario.

The company’s CEO Mike Rencheck gave the news over the radio with Premier Doug Ford on Wednesday. Ford referred to it as “the largest donation we’ve received so far.”

Rencheck noted that the company will use its “logistics and supply chain to get this equipment to the front lines as soon as possible.”

Bruce Power will be using products that it has in stock as well as future purchases for the donation.

The donation is great news for many as some Ontario nurses are being asked to use their surgical masks “until grossly soiled” because of short supply.

Public pleas for PPE donations have been made by many healthcare employees and facilities.

Many companies are using their resources to provide what PPE they can. Companies that manufacture hockey equipment such as Bauer are doing what they can as well as colleges and universities who are using 3D printers to produce the items needed in Canada.

PPE drives have also been organized by community groups to help healthcare workers.

Provincial and federal governments in Canada have said they will spend billions more on purchasing necessary medical equipment.
