Ontario reports 157 new coronavirus cases and seven new deaths

As of Tuesday, the province of Ontario reported 157 new cases of COVID-19 and seven additional deaths, according to Global News.

As of Tuesday, the province of Ontario reported 157 new cases of COVID-19 and seven additional deaths, according to Global News.

The latest batch of testing bring Ontario's total number of cases is 35,068 and the death toll is now 2,672 and the total resolved cases are 30,344. The likelihood of making a recovery remains at 86 percent.

The province also conducted 23,759 tests on Monday for a total of 1,407,325 completed test across Ontario. There is also an additional 19,318 tests that were conducted however the results have not yet come in.

The majority of new cases, again, came from the Greater Toronto Area. Toronto reported 47 of the new cases while Peel Region reported 31 new cases and York Region reported 21 new cases.

Hamilton reported 14 new cases as well and Windsor-Essex reported an additional 17 cases.

The remaining public health units across the province recorded less than 10 new cases and many recorded zero new cases.

These numbers are valid up until Monday at 2 p.m. for Toronto, Ottawa and Middlesex-London and 4 p.m. for Ontario's remaining public health units.

There are currently 213 patients being hospitalized for COVID-19, down by 19 patients from yesterday and 42 of those patients are in intensive care units. Of the 42 patients, 24 require the use of a ventilator.

The Ministry of Long-Term Care reported that 1,809 of the provinces recored deaths have been residents and patients of long-term care homes throughout the province. Seven healthcare workers have died while working in LTC homes as well.

While not all tests record the patients age and gender, many do. The following is a breakdown based on the patients who did provide that information.

  • 16,053 people are male.
  • 18,739 people are female.
  • 1,682 people are 19 and under.
  • 10,213 people are 20 to 39.
  • 10,646 people are 40 to 59.
  • 6,657 people are 60 to 79.
  • 5,861 people are 80 and over.
