Ontario reported 2,380 new cases of coronavirus and 17 new deaths on Thursday, Cp24 reports.
According to the province, however, the data is skewed due to a "technical issue affecting the flow of laboratory reports into the provincial case and contact management system." 280 previous cases were therefore included in the Thursday numbers.
It is the first time that Ontario has reported more than 2,000 new daily cases since January.
The seven-day rolling average has increased to 1,794, up by more than 350 since one week earlier.
77 cases of new, more contagious variants of the virus have also been recorded.
894 people are currently hospitalized for coronavirus, up by one since Wednesday. 332 of those hospitalized are in ICUs while 212 are on ventilators.
Some good news have been reported, however. For the third day in a row, the province has reported no new cases of coronavirus in nursing homes. Testing levels are also up from last week, with 60,000 people having been tested in the province in the past 24 hours compared to less than 52,000 a week ago.
Nearly half of the new cases were reported in the city of Toronto, while a clear majority has been reported in the larger Greater Toronto Area.
Overall, over 330,000 Ontarians have tested positive for coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, with 16,081 of those cases being active.
Over 300,000 Ontarians have now been fully vaccinated against coronavirus, with 1.7 million doses administered overall.
