A student in Ontario was arrested and charged with trespassing Monday for trying to attend his Catholic high school.
Josh Alexander, 16, has not been permitted to attend St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Renfrew, Ontario since last November when he staged a single-sex bathroom protest. He had also expressed the belief that God created only two sexes, male and female, during a classroom discussion.
This led to the Grade 11 student being officially “excluded” for the rest of the school year because his presence was deemed “detrimental to the physical and mental well-being” of transgender students. However, Alexander decided to attend school Monday because he feels the exclusion is unlawful.
“I have just been arrested and charged at my Catholic highschool for attending class after being excluded for indicating my intent to adhere to my religious beliefs,” tweeted Alexander.
According to Liberty Coalition Canada, Alexander was arrested, charged with trespassing, and then released.
Alexander’s lawyer, James Kitchen, the chief litigator for Liberty Coalition Canada (LCC), told LifeSiteNews that Alexander’s decision to attend school today was “an intelligent choice of a young man who knows what he is doing,” adding that the arrest was “not entirely unexpected.”
Kitchen confirmed that Alexander had been released after a few hours in custody, and that while it was not yet clear what the charges were, they were thought to be trespass-related.
“Unfortunately it takes this sort of drastic confrontation for people to just realize the insanity [of the situation],” Kitchen added.
St. Joseph’s Catholic High School declined to comment when reached by The Post Millennial.
