The office of the Premier of Ontario has confirmed that the first doses of the Pfizer Coronavirus vaccine will be administered in the province today, CP24 reports.
Ontario received a couple thousand doses, which arrived by plane at Hamilton International Airport last night. The doses are expected to arrive in Toronto this morning.
The province had originally planned to start vaccinations on Tuesday, but has changed course and will begin administering the shots today. Toronto will get all the doses that came from Hamilton on the UPS jet.
Ottawa will also receive vaccines today, but those will likely come from a shipment that was received at Montreal’s Mirabel Airport. Premier Doug Ford was at Hamilton International Airport yesterday as the plane touched down with vaccine doses.
In a statement, his office said "The province has been preparing for this day for months and we are ready for the road ahead. It’s time to start vaccinating Ontarians. It’s time to put an end to the COVID-19 pandemic."
This vaccine news comes as two more regions are moved into the lockdown tier of Ontario’s COVID-19 response framework.
