Ontario is set to announce a vaccine passport system early next week. This is according to anonymous sources, which leaked the information to CBC. The sources also say the cabinet will meet Tuesday to discuss the plan, and although members are opposed to it, the vaccine passport will pass.

The news comes as Quebec already has begun implementing a similar system and British Columbia just recently announced similar plans. Nonetheless, the Ontario vaccine passport is said to differ from Quebec's system.

It remains unknown how Premier Doug Ford will justify the program after previously stating a vaccine passport would create a "split society." The sudden shift in plans may be related to mounting pressure from municipalities on Ford and the increasingly present fourth wave of COVID-19.

This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
