O'Toole tweets message in support of trans community for #TransDayOfVisibility

Conservative Party Leader Erin O'Toole tweeted a message in support of the trans community "in Canada and around the world" on Tuesday.

Transgender Day of Visibility has existed since 2009 and "was started as a day of awareness to celebrate the successes of transgender and gender-nonconforming people and is an important day for the LGBTQ community," reports CNN. It is celebrated yearly on March 31.

It is a separate day from Trans Day of Remembrance, which is held in November to "memorialize the transgender people who have lost their lives as a result of anti-transgender violence."

O'Toole's tweet aligns with his campaign's message from the get-go, as the leader has made attempts to appeal to a broader range of Canadians.

During his speech after winning the Conservative Party Leadership contest, O'Toole noted that he "want[s] more Canadians to see a Conservative when they look in the mirror."

O'Toole has framed his party of one of openness for people who are determined, who work hard, and want to be respected. "These ideals will ensure more Canadians see a Conservative when they look in the mirror, and feel good about voting for a party that will get this country moving again," he said. "I want all Canadians to feel welcome in the Conservative Party of Canada."
