Over 1 million voters have switched registration to the Republican Party, many of whom are the coveted suburban swing voters who have voted Democratic in recent elections.

A "political shift" is taking place as the more than million voters switched parties across 43 states and "nowhere is the shift more pronounced — and dangerous for Democrats — than in the suburbs" where tens of thousands of voters have moved affiliation to the GOP, according to the Associated Press.

The wave of additions to the GOP is another signal that Democrats are in trouble in the November midterms as the country faces record high inflation, constant supply chain disruptions, and a likely recession. President Biden's approval rating is one of the lowest in the history of polling.

The New York Post reports Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel said in response, "Biden and Democrats are woefully out of touch with the American people, and that’s why voters are flocking to the Republican Party in droves." Citing "Biden’s gas hike, the open border crisis, baby formula shortage and rising crime" McDaniel predicted "American suburbs will trend red for cycles to come."

The AP's data and analysis illustrate a definite reversal in voter affiliation from when former President Donald Trump was in office, a time that saw college educated swing voters turn away from the GOP.

Their information shows "far more people are switching to the GOP across suburban counties from Denver to Atlanta and Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Republicans also gained ground in counties around medium-size cities such as Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Raleigh, North Carolina; Augusta, Georgia; and Des Moines, Iowa."

Ben Smith, a local to Larimer County, Colorado, a suburb of Denver, said he grew "increasingly concerned about the Democrats’ support in some localities for mandatory COVID-19 vaccines, the party’s inability to quell violent crime and its frequent focus on racial justice."
