Canadian Armed Forces members who have medical training are being dispatched to long-term care homes in Quebec, according to CBC News.
On Friday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that 125 people will be sent to work in the homes. This follows the province's request for help earlier this week.
The federal government also wants to send Red Cross members and specialized volunteers who are registered with health Canada, according to Trudeau.
Quebec’s long term care homes (CHSLDs) have been hit extremely hard by the virus and—infecting hundreds of residents as well as staff members.
Over 100 staff have even become sick in single homes hit by the outbreak.
After Trudeau’s announcement, Quebec Premier François Legault thanked him on Twitter for helping with the “critical” situation going on in certain CHSLDs.
Since Legault requested help, on Wednesday, approximately 2,000 specialists in Quebec have offered to help at the CHSLDs.
As surgeries and non-emergency procedures are postponed, specialists are becoming more available to help nurses and orderlies.
