According to National Observer reporter Carl Meyer, the Parliamentary Budget Office has rejected Finance Minister Bill Morneau's criticism of its report on the Trans Mountain pipeline purchase.
The report, which has since been removed from the PBO's website, was released on January 31st and it detailed the costs incurred by the federal government in the failed Trans Mountain purchase.
When the federal government secured the pipeline they paid $4.4 billion for the project. This valuation was assumed to be a bargain for a project that was assumed to cost $6.5 billion.
However, the PBO report calculated that the Liberal government may have overspent by upwards to $1 billion for the faulty project.
Soon after the report came to light, Morneau criticized the PBO's research and claimed they purposefully omitted information and had not accounted for certain taxes.
"I can do the math for you," he was quoted telling the media after the report's release.
In the recently deleted blog post, the PBO refused the Finance Minister's suggestions and reiterated the accuracy of their research.
The Finance Minister has yet to comment on the new report and it is yet to be seen whether the PBO will make any further announcements on the situation.
