The public broadcaster PBS falsely claimed in a livestreamed video that Jacob Blake was "killed" by police. Blake was not killed by police.
Jacob Blake was shot in the back by police after resisting arrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin in late August. According to police, Blake had managed to resist a taser before trying to reach into his car, at which point police shot Blake in front of his children.
There was reportedly a restraining order against him, the violation of which was the reason police had been called to the scene. Police claimed that he was armed with a knife, which was found in his car following the shooting.
Blake was paralyzed from the waist down and suffered damage to his organs, but survived the encounter.
The incident sparked protests and rioting across Kenosha, which resulted in two deaths and widespread property damage from arson.
Prosecutors announced on Tuesday their decision not to press charges against the officer who shot Blake. Kenosha prepared for potential further unrest following the prosecutorial decision, with Wisconsin Governor Evers preemptively calling in the National Guard and the city council granting the Mayor powers to enforce a curfew.
