Shadow Finance Minister Pierre Poilievre said that the investigation into the WE Charity and its dealings with the Trudeau government would continue, even as the organization announced that it would be "winding down" its operations in Canada.
"WE closure changes nothing," said the Carleton MP. "Finance Committee will resume investigations once Parliament opens. You can run but you can't hide."
Investigations into WE were halted by the Trudeau government's decision to prorogue Parliament. Those investigations lead to bombshell testimonies that many believe lead to then-Finance Minister Bill Morneau's resignation.
Other notable testimonies included Marc Kielburger and Craig Kielburger, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Youth Minister Bardish Chagger.
The charity's closure was blamed on the ongoing health crisis and the Trudeau government scandal involving the charity.
"We are saddened by these developments. This year marks the 25th anniversary of WE Charity Canada. We planned to launch an endowment this year, but not in this way. I feel confident, though, we've found a way forward that protects and continues to support the most vulnerable in the communities where we work, especially the children. The lasting impact of our work has been made possible by the many people who have supported WE Charity Canada over the past two decades. For that we are tremendously grateful," the Kielburgers said in a statement released yesterday.
