Police in Windsor, Ontario have located the suspect in an alleged sexual assault case that took place in a women’s shelter on April 4.

On April 18, Windsor Police put out a call to the public for information regarding a suspect after a female victim reported that she had been sexually assaulted while staying at a Windsor women’s shelter.

The suspect, who has been identified as a trans-identified male going by the name of Desiree Anderson, was also residing at the shelter at the time. The victim alleges that Anderson climbed into bed with her and sexually assaulted her.

“The suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Desiree Anderson, who may also be known as Cody D’Entremont. The suspect is described as 5’7”, 141 lbs, with brown eyes and brown hair.

The suspect is alleged to frequent the downtown area,” read the police bulletin, neglecting to mention that the suspect is male.

In an update later the same day, Windsor Police, being careful to use gender-neutral pronouns, said, “The suspect in this incident has turned themselves in to police. We want to thank the public for their support and for sharing our post. Your help in spreading the word played a crucial role in bringing about a resolution.”

Anderson was allowed access to the women’s shelter because in Canada, spaces are now segregated by gender identity rather than biological sex. This allows any male, including sexual predators, to claim to be in possession of a female gender identity and gain access to women’s intimate spaces. Women’s rights groups have been making this point for years in Canada, but their concerns have been dismissed as being transphobic.

This is not the first incident to occur in a women’s shelter since Canada stripped women and girls of the safety and protection of female-only spaces.

In October 2022, a woman was allegedly raped by a trans-identified male predator in a women’s shelter in Parry Sound, Ontario.

According to Reduxx, Shane Jacob Green, 25, was arrested on August 24. Ontario Provincial Police issued a notice saying Green had been charged with two counts of sexual assault, four counts of failing to comply with a probation order, and one count of failing to comply with a release order.

Only later did it emerge that the crimes had occurred while Green was residing in a women’s shelter.

Green was known to police and has multiple prior offenses — including a conviction for the sexual assault of a woman in 2018.

In 2018, a Toronto survivor of sexual violence was forced to share a room with a fully intact trans-identified male. Kristi Hanna had sought refuge in the Jean Tweed Centre in Toronto while struggling with addiction due to her history of sexual abuse. She says she was forced to leave the women’s shelter because the presence of a male triggered rape flashbacks, anxiety, and PTSD, reported the National Post

Hanna described the male as “late 20s, has facial hair, chest hair, and wears large black combat boots that ‘trigger’ her with their thumping.” But when she and other women attempted to complain to shelter staff, Hanna claims she was told, “We’re all about inclusion and it’s unfortunate you feel this way…Deal with it or leave.” Hanna left, and has since filed a human rights complaint.

There is only one known female-only shelter remaining in the whole of Canada, and that is the Vancouver Rape Relief (VRR) in British Columbia. VRR, Canada’s oldest rape crisis shelter, had its city funding halted in 2019 after it refused to bow down to the demands of trans activists and allow males to access its female-only services.

Trans activists pressured the city government to make the shelter’s funding contingent on allowing trans-identified males to invade the services reserved for females. The shelter has since become victim to a campaign of harassment and intimidation with repeated acts of vandalism including having a dead rat nailed to its door.
