Fabio Wajngarten, the communications director for Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has tested positive for coronavirus, just days after meeting with President Trump in Florida, according to Global News.
Ivanka Trump, son-in-law Jared Kushner, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Brazil’s foreign minister Ernesto Araujo, and Bolsonaro’s son Eduardo, were also all in attendance at the Mar-a-Lago event.
“We had dinner in Florida at Mar-a-Lago with the entire delegation,” Trump told reporters on Thursday. “I don’t know if the press aide was there. But we did nothing very unusual.”
Bolsonaro's administration told the press that Wajngarten's test results came back positive and that they are taking measure to ensure the health and safety for President Bolsonaro.
Wajngarten was with Bolsonaro on a three-day trip to the U.S. and on the two attended and event at the Mar-a-Lago resort. Wajingarten posted a photo of himself posing beside Trump. A separate video from also shows him standing behind both presidents as they addressed a crowd at the event.
Initially, Wajngarten took to social media to deny rumours that he had been tested for the virus, telling the public that he was fine. Later, after the results came back positive, Wajngarten has since self-isolated, choosing to quarantine himself at his home.
Bolsonaro himself has also been tested for coronavirus, he will await his results which are expected to be in by Friday according to local Brazilian newspaper Estado de S.Paulo.
The Trump administration has yet to answer any questions about this development such as whether or not the president or his staff have been test for COVID-19. Florida’s Senator Rick Scott, released a statement saying he will choose to self quarantine as well despite his belief that his personal risk is low. Scott also met with Bolsonaro in Miami around the same time.
