A Portland Police Bureau supervisor was attacked Tuesday night after Mayor Ted Wheeler declared a state of emergency following the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial.

Randy Gray, 34, was wearing all black along with a group of demonstrators when one of them blocked off a Portland Police officer walking his bike down the sidewalk. The officer was walking back from dealing with that person when he crossed paths with Gray. Gray screamed profanities while striking the officer directly in the face.

The officer, fell to the ground and Gray jumped on top of him continuing to attack the officer. Multiple officers joined the struggle that resulted in pepper spray being deployed to subdue Gray. Gray was taken into custody without further incident.

Gray was charged with assault on a police officer, a felony, and 4 other charges however he was released early Wednesday morning without having to post bail. As of publishing, there has been no update on the condition of the officer.

Portland was the scene of violent demonstrations Tuesday night that included set fires, demonstrators blocking traffic and a Starbucks being vandalized with spray paint and its windows smashed.

Kenneth Harold, 24, was arrested in connection with vandalization of the Starbucks and was found in possession of a glass breaking instrument and spray paint. Harold was charged with felony criminal mischief.

The protests were declared an unlawful assembly by Portland Police just after 10 PM and the Police deployed Rapid Response Team officers to deal with small groups of rioters throughout the night.

The night before had seen multiple arrests during another unlawful assembly, as known Antifa members rioted in the streets.

Police posted flyers distributed online by Antifa advertising riotous activity scheduled for Tuesday night and Wednesday night.
