In a press conference Friday morning Premier Doug Ford blasted US President Donald Trump for announcing that, starting August 16th, the US will be imposing a 10-cent tariff on imports of Canadian aluminum products. Ford pulled no punches in his criticism of Trump's plan.

Ford’s Progressive Conservative government said the tariffs will have a “damaging impact on Ontario businesses, workers and consumers.” In his statements to the press, Doug Ford said “we’re the closest allies, we’re supposed to be a part of the big family, then he [Trump] comes and backstabs us like this,” he followed up by saying “we will come back swinging like they’ve never seen before.”

Premier Ford issued a message to corporate Canada, "step up and say proudly, made in Canada” and included a call-to-arms for Ontarians “let’s start buying products made here in Ontario or in Canada.”

In a statement released yesterday, the Ontario government said they "urge (the federal government) to press the U.S. administration for immediate and permanent removal of its tariffs on Canadian aluminum, and to ensure that no other trade impediments such as quotas are introduced."
