Premier François Legault has asked that Quebecers don't travel from one region to another unless absolutely necessary in order to slow the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, according to the Montreal Gazette.

The premier appealed to the good will of the population by asking Quebecers to restrict their trips to a region other than the one where they reside. In a recent press briefing he said, "For the moment, we don't need to close regions, but it is important, to avoid spreading the virus from one region to another, not to travel, unless it is essential, from one region to another."

Quebec currently has the capacity to do 5,000 tests per day. Legault predicts will increases in the number of confirmed cases once the province begins to expand testing.

“The more we test, the more the number of cases will increase,” he said.

Legault and public-health director Dr. Horacio Arruda stated that Quebecers need to stay at home, meaning no dinner parties or meet ups with friends.

“Transform this event into something positive,” said Arruda, telling Quebecers to use this time to do something around the house that they've already been meaning to do.

Legault assured the public that Quebec has enough equipment such as ventilators and testing kits to handle the pandemic for the short term, “In the short term we have all the equipment we need,” he said.
