A North Carolina preschool teacher has resigned following backlash after it was discovered that she had shown LGBTQ flashcards, one of which depicted a "pregnant man," to kids.

On Sunday, it was revealed that a North Carolina preschool teacher had been using pro-LGBTQ flashcards, one of which depicted a "pregnant man," to teach colors to kids.

A spokesperson for the school district confirmed that the teacher had resigned following backlash from parents and other concerned citizens.

The "Progress Pride Flag Rainbow Families Flash Cards" were first brought to the attention of North Carolina state Representative Erin Pare by a concerned parent.

"Schools should only be using age-appropriate materials, and these flashcards clearly do not meet that standard for a pre-school classroom," Pare said.

"I am grateful that a concerned constituent reached out and that this issue is being addressed in a swift and professional manner by Ballentine Elementary School."

The Daily Mail reported that after being contacted by Pare, Ballentine Elementary principal Lutashia Dove confirmed that the cards were being used by the teacher "outside the approved curriculum."

The cards were confiscated by Dove, who then contacted the local superintendent and human resources.

The school district released a statement on the matter.

"The district is concerned to learn of the inappropriate instructional resource found in a preschool classroom," it read. "An initial review determined that flash cards were not tied to the district's Pre-K curriculum, did not complement, enrich, or extend the curriculum and were used without the principal's review, knowledge, and/or approval."

North Carolina is in the midst of passing legislation that would give parents more insight into what their children are being taught at school, and protect students from materials that are deemed not to be age appropriate.
