President Trump declines to sign coronavirus relief bill, puts pressure on Congress to find resolution before shutdown

President pushed back against Congress Saturday in a tweet insisting that Congress increase relief payments to the American people before he signs the coronavirus relief bill.

"Increase payments to the people, get rid of the “pork”." the President tweeted.

Trump declined to sign the bill until Congress raises amounts in relief checks to Americans from an initial $600 per person to $2,000 per person or $4,000 per couple, Fox Business reports.

The $900 billion relief bill not only provided struggling Americans with a measly $600, but also allocated billions to foreign spending unrelated to the coronavirus in America.

President-elect Joe Biden urged President Trump Saturday to sign the initial bill, including all of they extraneous foreign aid expenditures attached.

"This abdication of responsibility has devastating consequences," Biden said.

At midnight Saturday, two unemployment programs keeping many Americans afloat during the pandemic will reportedly expire. The President's move aims to stack the pressure on Congress to come to a resolution that puts struggling Americans first as benefactors of the bill.

The nearly 6,000 page bill also provided temporary funding for the federal government, and if it does not pass, the government will shut down at midnight Monday night.
