On Wednesday, Project Veritas released a video showing that its founder, James O’Keefe, as well as fellow Project Veritas journalists were threatened with arrest as they went to confront a Connecticut elementary school assistant principal over his discriminatory hiring practices.
A video released by Project Veritas on Tuesday evening showed undercover conversations with Cos Cob Elementary School Assistant Principal Jeremy Boland, who revealed that he refused to hire teachers that may be older, conservative, or Catholic, and that he and other teachers at the school teach students to think with a liberal mindset.
The Wednesday video shows O’Keefe confronting Boland in a restaurant, where O’Keefe asks if Boland is the assistant principal at the school.
"How do we know this?" Boland responded to O’Keefe’s questions regarding his identity.
"We know this because you’re caught in a hidden camera video saying that you don’t hire Catholics," O’Keefe said.
"Is it ethical to discriminate against people due to their religion?" O’Keefe asked.
"This needs to stop," Boland replied.
As O’Keefe noted that the discriminatory hiring practices violate Connecticut law, Boland continued to reply with "this needs to stop."
When O’Keefe asked why "does it need to stop," Boland replied, "'Cause I’m telling you it needs to stop."
O’Keefe continued to press Boland stating that he is a journalist and asking again why he needs to stop.
"I didn’t agree to this," Boland replied.
O’Keefe said that Boland had agreed to speak to the Project Veritas journalist, to which Boland said that he had agreed to speak "privately" with her.
In a later shot of the video, O’Keefe is seen showing the video to fellow restaurant attendees who had taken interest in the situation, explaining what had happened.
The manager of the restaurant then comes over and informs the group that they need to leave the premises. The same manager was seen outside the restaurant filming the Project Veritas crew.
The video continues outside, with O’Keefe telling the camera, "the police have showed up here so we’re having a situation, here we go."
A police officer spoke with O’Keefe and his crew, saying "don’t go in there."
"If you’re trespassing, you’re going to get locked up, and I’m pretty sure you’re going to be on the news as well" he added.
The manager stated that the crew is not allowed to take any photos or videos inside the restaurant without the businesses’ permission, to which O’Keefe responded, "how about this parking lot?" O’Keefe received no response.
"Threatened to put us in jail," O’Keefe told the camera after the incident. "We will be reaching out to this police station for comment, for threatening to jail journalists for asking questions."
