Rioters in downtown Portland egged police on for hours, throwing paint, rocks, spikes, golf balls, and even used a stop sign to wreck unoccupied cop cars.
When Portland protesters failed to instigate police, rioters took to disrupting residential neighborhoods, shining lights into civilians' windows and chanting throughout the night.
"By your house, in the streets!" the mob shouted at doorsteps past midnight.
Black Lives Matter activists erupted into mantras, berating sleeping locals. "Wake up, wake up! Wake up, mother f**ker, wake up!” they shouted into megaphones, taunting residents to leave their homes and address the outraged rally outside.
Yesterday, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown had just threatened statewide limits on dining and travel to slow the coronavirus spread, but she had made no mention of restrictions on riots or mass demonstrations.
With family businesses shut down and civil gatherings limited by pandemic policies, Antifa agents and anarchists were still free to terrorize local communities as they screamed, "No cops, No prisons, Total abolition!"
However, a lone protestor wore a mask while stripped down completely naked.
Then hundreds of Antifa black bloc militants poured to the Portland Police's North Precinct, a previous target of attack and arson.
In a standoff between protestors and officers, an agitator smashed the driver-side window of an empty police cruiser, followed by objects thrown at the same vehicle.
The crowd supported the vandalism, shouting "Blue Lives Splatter!"
Several militants charged a stop sign at another PPD vehicle, hurling the metal traffic sign above their heads as it shattered the windshield.
"Officers placed unoccupied police vehicles parked on Northeast Emerson Street on the southwest side of the precinct and yellow police line tape across the road. That was done with the intention of keeping the crowd away from the building," PPB report.
Over three hours, individuals pelted the police vehicles with softball-sized rocks, glass bottles, golf balls, ball bearings, metal railroad spikes, and plastic eggs filled with paint.
Individuals were seen using lacrosse sticks to launch rocks a greater distance. At least two officers were struck with rocks despite their safety buffer. A ball bearing struck the loudspeaker truck almost a full block away. A van parked in front of the neighboring Boys and Girls Club had a window reportedly broken by a golf ball.
PPB fired off inert smoke canisters to obscure rioters' vision.
The Portland Police Department had warned perpetrators, who launched projectiles and pointed blinding lasers at officers, verbally and via social media of the use of mitigating force by crowd control agents and impact weapons.
After 1:00 a.m., PPB declared the gathering a riot, ordering all to disperse immediately and travel south away from NE Emerson St and NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Numerous attendees with "press" markings encroached on the closed area. One person with "press" written on their garments deflated another police vehicle tire, police reported.
Members of the "media" were told that that if they were there as press or a legal observer, they must also follow directions. Some were physically pushed back to keep a proper distance away from filming officers.
One self-described "independent journalist," BLM activist, and Antifa sympathizer, @PDXGabs on Twitter, wrote: "Somehow this cop car's window was broken, but I didn't see anything."
"Weird," she added, setting the left-wing narrative for national mainstream media not on the ground in Portland.
Ignoring multiple instructions to disband, rioters formed a wall and carried makeshift shields as they approached officers, attempting to provoke a response.
The group continued to escalate. A fire was lit on the street and fed with plastic recycling bins, newspaper boxes, and other debris. A dumpster was pushed into the fire.
One vehicle attempted to run over officers, but was unsuccessful in injuring them. One was reportedly shot with a sponge-tipped less-lethal round after he was seen throwing rocks at officers. The suspect was subsequently provided with medical treatment upon arrest.
One officer suffered a laceration to her leg by a thrown rock that hit her. Another officer's ankle was sprained. Others suffered various bumps and bruises.
A detainee reportedly tried to reach for his pocket mid-arrest and was scolded severely.
One rioter attempted to harbor a criminal suspect in her vehicle, refusing to unlock the car door. She conceded when officers informed her that she was subject to arrest if she interfered further.
Nine arrests were made. Among them, several were criminally cited for interfering with a peace officer, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, riot, resisting arrest, assaulting a public safety officer, harassment and criminal trespass and others booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.
