White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters Tuesday that President Joe Biden was not concerned about former President Donald Trump's scheduled political return this weekend at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, the Washington Examiner reported.
"I wouldn’t say he’s thought a lot about the former president’s visit to — I was going to say ‘performance,’ maybe that’s appropriate — at CPAC," Psaki told reporters. The former President is reportedly set to speak to the crowd at CPAC on Sunday. Trump's aides have hinted that he will use the speech to cast himself as the GOP 2024 presidential nominee. Psaki expressed that the Biden administration is not interested in responding to Trump's speech unless there is "a reason to."
"There's been more than enough time spent on former President Trump, and so, if there's not a reason to do it, we're probably not going to be adding more commentary on it," she said.
The contents of Trump's CPAC speech will also include a rebuke of the current President's immigration policy, which has so far undone much of Trump's immigration reforms, namely, halting border wall construction, returning to "catch and release" policy, and announcing a 100 day halt on deportations.
CPAC hosts speeches from a wide variety of conservative and libertarian voices from around the country. The convention is usually held just outside of Washington DC, but this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, was moved to Orlando Florida.
Former Vice President Mike Pence reportedly refused an offer over the weekend to appear and speak at CPAC due to possible animosity still held between himself and Trump over the handling of the Capitol riot on Jan. 6.
