Rep. Adam Schiff said Sunday on CBS's Face the Nation that President Trump should no longer have access to intelligence briefings beyond his presidential term.

Schiff, who is the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said that the President's authorization to be briefed presents a national security risk, adding that he would urge the Biden administration to bar Trump from any future intelligence briefings.

Traditionally retired Presidents are allowed access to intelligence briefings and other classified information.

"There is no circumstance in which this president should get another intelligence briefing, not now, not in the future," Schiff said.

"I don't think he can be trusted with it now, and in the future, he certainly can't be trusted. We've seen this president politicize intelligence, and that's another risk to the country," he continued.

Schiff has been a long time critic and political enemy of the President, leading his committee's investigation into whether there was Russia, collusion during the 2016 election to aid in Donald Trump's victory.

Former official in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Sue Gordon, wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post mirroring Schiff's sentiment to prevent Trump's access to future intelligence information.

"My recommendation, as a 30-plus-year veteran of the intelligence community, is not to provide (Trump) any briefings after Jan. 20," the op-ed says.

"With this simple act — which is solely the new president’s prerogative — Joe Biden can mitigate one aspect of the potential national security risk posed by Donald Trump, private citizen," if continues.
