A new report says only 13 percent of the 50,000 illegal immigrants that were released in the United States with an order to show up to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office actually did so.
Axios reported that this the case despite the illegals being given a list of ICE offices to contact. They also reported on data from the Department of Homeland Security which shows that only 6700 migrants between mid-March and mid-July bothered to show up at ice offices.
16,000 migrants are also past the 60-day reporting period that was given to them when they were apprehended. Around 27,000 illegal immigrants who were released but have not showed up to an ICE office are still within the 60-day reporting period.
DHS spokesperson Meira Bernstein told Axios that "while individuals have 60 days to check in with ICE, many are proactively reaching out to ICE to begin their official immigration processing, including by receiving a Notice to Appear. Bernstein added that "those who do not report, like anyone who is in our country without legal status, are subject to removal by ICE."
Since the inauguration of Joe Biden, authorities have encountered 1,078,226 illegal immigrants trying to cross the US-Mexico border, making it a 102 percent increase from the fiscal year of 2020, says the New York Post.
President Biden put Vice President Kamala Harris in charge of solving the border crisis, however, she has not done much on the issue. She refused to visit the border for weeks, opting to finally visit it only after President Trump announced he would pay the border a visit.
