Researchers out of Western University in London, Ontario have developed what they say is a cheaper, faster and more accurate COVID-19 antibody test than any approved so far in Canada, CTV News reports.
To develop the test, Professor Shawn Li, out of Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western, collaborated with his faculty colleagues and with researchers from the University of Toronto.
The project was supported by a grant from the Ontario Research Fund-COVID-19 Rapid Research Fund and by the Toronto COVID-19 Action Fund.
The team's paper that outlines the test says the test determines anti-bodies by reading serum or plasma and would take five min to complete with no instrument required.
The simplicity of this test makes it ideal for point-of-care (POC) use at the community level. The test is still under peer review.
Ontario reported 2,578 new cases and 24 new deaths on Monday.
