Reuters retracts claim that 'pro-abortion' protestors disrupted WNBA game, restates as 'pro-choice'

On Wednesday, Reuters retracted an earlier tweet that stated the protestors who disrupted a WNBA game in New York were "pro-abortion," reposting to say that they were actually "pro-choice" protestors

On Tuesday night, topless protestors splashed with green paint ran onto the court at Brooklyn's Barclays Center during a WNBA game between New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx.

Reuters originally reported that the protestors were "pro-abortion," but later issued a retraction, saying instead that they were simply "pro-choice."

"CORRECTION: Pro-choice protesters briefly interrupted a WNBA game at the Barclays Center in New York City," Reuters wrote on Twitter Wednesday morning. "We are deleting a previous tweet that incorrectly referred to the protesters as 'pro-abortion'."

The correction was also made on YouTube.

In the video, protestors can be seen running around with the phrases "My body, My choice," and "Overturn Roe? Hell no!" written on their chests and on signs. The stunt garnered a mixed reaction from the crowd, with some cheering and others not amused by the activists' message.

They were eventually apprehended by security and escorted out of the building, and as the New York Post reports, no charges were filed by the NYPD.

The group responsible for the disruption was "Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights," who advocate for "abortion on demand & without apology."

According to their website, the group hopes to halt the reversal of Roe v Wade via the use of "non-violent resistance" that "will bering the gears of society to a grinding halt."

In the past few weeks, members of the group have chained themselves to the fence around the Supreme Court, and disrupted numerous events including proceedings at Joel Osteen's megachurch.

The plan to overturn Roe v Wade was leaked in May, reigniting the debate over abortion. The leaked draft opinion, penned by Justice Samuel Alito, indicated that a majority of the justices would vote as such. Chief Justice John Roberts has confirmed the document's authenticity, but has stated that it doesn't relfect a final opinion, which is expected in the coming weeks.
